Abstract

Children develop step by step as road users, as cyclists too. In contrast to earlier years, this process starts at a much earlier age. Road safety research is taking increasing account of the problem of accidents which is part of this development. Among other things, a graduated model has been set up to consider the levels of children as cyclists in traffic. This model shows the relationship between the differing abilities of children depending on development stage, the characteristics of traffic areas and road traffic regulations.
