Abstract

Traffic flow characteristics on roads in urban areas demand a systematic and scientific study of the factors affecting design and performance of traffic signals for achieving optimum efficiency. This study deals with some of the factors such as delay to traffic, percentage of vehicles stopped, peak hour, degree of saturation, and load factor, based upon field studies carried out on a few approaches to signalized intersections in New Delhi.
