Abstract

Some of the factors which influence the geometric design of rural roads is outlined, with emphasis on the vertical alignment, and the geometric design standards currently recommended for motorways in the United Kingdom are described. This report also states a set of phasing rules and describes a computer program that adjusts a vertical alignment so as to phase it with the horizontal alignment according to these rules.
