Abstract

The increasing number of accidents involving sign support structures led to the investigation of resign criteria for break-away sign support. These supports should be able to withstand wind loading but fail on impact from a vehicle. In this paper a description is given of the development of an analytical model which was used to evaluate the various parameters affecting the design. After correlation with a full-scale test, design criteria were developed.
