Abstract

In an earlier article the authors combined the entropy maximizing approach to urban location theory with postulates on individual behaviour to develop a discrete model of residential land use. This paper extends the earlier model so that it can deal with populations which are continuous in distance and income levels. The new formulation provides the planner with a model to predict the spatial behaviour of income classes and their response to changes in the transportation system.
