Abstract

Departmental Standard TD 22/92 (see C 5728 (IRRD 856366) sets out the design standards and methodology for the geometric layout of grade separated junctions on trunk roads. This Advice Note provides guidance on the principles for safety and traffic operation on which the Standard is based, and is intended to be read in conjunction with it. Recommendations are given on the siting of grade separated junctions in urban and rural areas, alternative layouts, geometric design and the treatment for pedestrians and cyclists. Some aspects of signs and road markings are included for completeness, though detailed guidance on these matters is given in the Department of Transport's Traffic Signs Manual and Standard TD 18/85. This Advice Note supersedes TA 48/86.
