Abstract

The safety of touring coach bodywork has been investigated in two areas only: (a) seat design; and (b) roll-over structural integrity. The development of a proposed test method for touring coach seats is described and compared with other proposals. The design of a seat/mounting combination to meet these conditions is described. The body structure in roll-over condition can be represented by the behaviour of the main rings spaced along the vehicle. Tests on one such ring are reported and compared with a theoretical analysis. The comparison emphasises the difficulty of providing a suitable test condition for loading the roof of a vehicle.
