Abstract

Until the early 1960's the road lighting engineer could choose between the high efficacy of low pressure sodium and sacrifice colour rendition, or high pressure mercury fluorescent revealing colour, albeit in a distorted way, but with a relatively low efficacy. Then high pressure sodium appeared. Now in the 1980's much more is possible in the design and producing of new main road luminaires.
