Abstract

As part of the program of strategies to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in Australia, the ACT, Queensland, South Australia, and Victoria have joined together to undertake a program of voluntary travel behaviour change (VTBC) strategies. Based on implementation of such strategies in a few locations around Australia, estimates have been made of the potential reductions in greenhouse gases that might be achievable. The intent of the project undertaken by the Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies (ITLS) was to develop a method for long-term monitoring that would indicate the probable extent of reductions of greenhouse gas emissions through measuring the reduction in vehicle kilometres of travel (VKT).
