Abstract

This dissertation is an investigation of the feasibility of using the traffic flow information compiled in real time by freeway traffic surveillance, communication, and control systems for the detection of accidents vehicular breakdowns, and other freeway incidents that temporarily block traffic lanes and disrupt traffic flow.
