Abstract

A series of pilot studies were conducted to study the manner and degree to which the vestibular and proprioceptive systems interact with the visual system. The approach taken was (1) to determine the lateral acceleration noise at the driver's head; (2) to determine the average absolute threshold of the driver to lateral (linear) acceleration and (3) to gather lateral and angular acceleration profiles under freeway driving. The pilot experiments and their results are described.
