Abstract

A method for determining those stimuli and stimulus combinations which exert strong control on driver behaviour is developed and the characteristics of the resultant stimuli are discussed. The implications for studies studies based upon such stimuli are compared to the characteristics of studies using stimuli selected by traditional techniques. The appropriate roles for each of these stimulus selection techniques are suggested.
