Abstract

This paper presents design and service charts that enable the size and pressure after inflation of an air bag in a passive restraint system to be predicted for a specified storage chamber size and charging pressure. It is shown that they are independent of the elastic properties of the bag and inflation dynamics, and that an equilibrium analysis leads to incorrect predictions.
