Abstract

A simple and economical testing fixture and method that may be used for determining the static and dynamic coefficients of friction and the operating conditions that cause their variation is described in this paper. Its advantages are compared to those of a practical vehicle test fixture. This testing method could provide a basic set of data that can be properly converted by the designer to predict the response of a clutch or brake in a new application.
