Abstract

In Norway imprisonment is the normal punishment for DWI (BAC higher than 0. 05%) In Sweden fines are administered for BAC 0. 05%-0. 15% and imprisonment for BAC higher than 0. 15%. This difference of punishment is used as a basis for a systematically comparison of DWI in the two countries. There is no indication of less DWI in Norway, in spite of the more severe punishment. In fact, there seems to be more DWI in Norway than in Sweden.
