Abstract
Program managers and other policymakers face major challenges in ensuring that the current and future transportation workforces maintain the skill level and knowledge required to be effective in all aspects of the transportation enterprise. It is not too early to consider how to support the needs of the next generation of transportation professionals in their development. This article discusses ways by which the industry can produce a better trained, more efficient, and more effective transportation workforce able to manage an increasingly complex system.
