Abstract

Detail specification of Japanese Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems is now under discussion, where 5.8 GHz active microwave communication system will be adopted. The ETC system has been developed with the technical basis of identification systems using microwave radio communication for manufacturing and transportation. This paper introduces newly developed 5.8 GHz active communication system for ETC as an application of Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) technology. Basic characteristics of radio communication were measured, and communication performance at high speed was evaluated to prove that the system works well.
