Abstract

The modal split of passenger transport is summarized. In Japan, passenger transport is more dependent on public transit. However, the modal share of public transit is decreasing. Since the 1970s, much effort has been made to develop advanced transit systems in Japan. The history of these transit systems is reviewed. The information service for transit passengers is also mentioned.
