Abstract

The presentation describes the results of several projects - studies and implementation - aiming at studying, development and testing of new on-trip information and booking systems, that will support and increase the use of other modes than private cars for journeys. The projects are elements of a medium-term strategy for facilitating mobility management aiming to optimize the entire transport system by optimizing each transport mode according to its specific advantages in the City of Bremen, Germany. The main objective of the strategy is to improve the traffic situation on the road network by diminishing the deficits in other transport modes and by facilitating the multi- and intermodal interfaces. This takes into consideration that improvements in other transport modes than road generally have positive impacts also on the situation of the road network. Different kinds of displays and terminals in the public area and at multimodal points will provide information on possible and available travel opportunities. The focal point of the projects is to combine technical devices supporting new mobility services (e.g. car-sharing) with real-time passenger information for public transport and with new opportunities for mobile data transfer for the handling of car-sharing and taxi systems: Parts of the projects are running in the scope of the Euro-regional project VIKING with the member states Denmark, Finland, Northern Germany, Norway and Sweden. Results of feasibility studies, first steps of pilots and implementation, technical evaluation and acceptance studies will be reported.
