Abstract

IMPACTS is a computer system for automatic traffic surveillance and incident detection using the output from CCTV cameras. Recent developments are described which provide advances in the systems performance under adverse lighting conditions, the reliability of incident alarms and the user interface. A pilot system has been tested in London and a multi-camera system has been installed in Strathclyde, based on a modular hardware platform. A similar system is being evaluated as part of the PLEIADES project in Kent. (A)
