Abstract

This paper describes the development and use of a 4-rope safety fence. Impact tests of safety fences and barriers were performed, and the severity of these tests was estimated using the value of the Theoretical Head Impact Velocity (THIV). The THIV value estimates the impact velocity with which a freely moving object, representing an occupant's head, would impact a surface in its path inside the vehicle compartment. (A)
