Abstract

The paper describes why the Swedish National Road Administration (SNRA) employs traffic conflict technique, the sort of traffic conflict technique used, and how it is applied. The conflict technique can be applied all over the country since there is one official, trained in conflict technique, at each one of the 24 Regional Road Administrations of the SNRA. The conflict technique is mainly used at locations with a rather limited area, e.g.intersections, where there are large enough traffic flows. The conflict data obtained in primarily used to supplement the accident data, in order to enhance the possibility of selecting the best measure for improving traffic safety flows.
