Abstract

The use of models as an aid in urban freeway design and highway design is presented. The combination of photogrammetry and models in contour grading design is recommended. The modern trend in freeway design is towards safety and aesthetics, and in both these fields models can play an important part. contour models are used to evaluate side slopes curvature, retaining walls and bridge designs. A model can quickly reveal those areas where driver safety is questionable. On the grounds of economy, simplicity, speed, safety and aesthetics, models are valuable tools in the planning and design of freeways.
