Abstract

In Japan, measures are being taken these days for reducing the death toll from traffic accidents, including the improvement of vehicle safety by equipping cars with ABS and air bags and enforcement of seat belt use. For the MayDay System, which has been conceived for increasing the survival rate in traffic accidents through prompt emergency reporting and rapid rescue response technology for determining the accident location is indispensable. So, the "Center Map-Matching System" and "Map Retrieval System" were developed. Both systems allow a quick and high-precision determination of the accident location. In this paper, the MayDay System is introduced and outlined and its principal development problems and approaches and their results are reported. (A*)
