Abstract

This paper proposes a novel beam control array antenna for advanced road to vehicle communication systems at 5.8 GHz band. The antenna can change its radiation pattern and its coverage area, in accordance with the communication traffic volume along the road. This kind of antenna is effective for coping with the concentrated communication traffic and reducing the number of handovers. The authors designed and are developing the beam control array antenna as a prototype focusing on the simplification of the antenna beam control unit and the antenna configuration for easy installation and applicability to the road to vehicle communication. Since they have obtained the characteristic result, they will report the contents in this paper.
