Abstract

An experimental project of demand responsive bus system has been launched in a small rural area of Japan. The bus system conveys three to four times more passengers in a day than the previous ordinary bus service. Thus the system seems to be successfully accepted by the community. The system incorporates a scheduling engine that quickly produces bus routes responding to users' requests. This is a report of the development of the system and the engine.
