Abstract
This paper reports on the study of identifying the freeway requirements of Iran when its per capita income reaches a level comparable to the developed countries in 1971. Faced with uncertainties of future socio-economic developments four contrasting scenarios were formulated hypothesizing Iran's socio-economic structure in the target year. Mathematical models were used to forecast passenger car and commercial vehicle traffic using distribution of passengers and freight.
