Abstract

This paper describes a mobile information system applicable to both car navigation systems and driver information systems. The system provides both request oriented information delivery and broadcasting using a one-way radio communication system. An effective data compression method installed in the system enables sufficient data transfer capacity by using a low speed paging system as a communication medium. A field test operated in Japan shows the effectiveness of data compression and reliable mobile data reception. (A)
