Abstract

This paper describes the ITS Car 2001-i concept car that has been developed around a production multipurpose vehicle (MPV). This is an operational concept car that embodies various information systems, which are expected to find early implementation in production vehicles. Innovations were made to the human-machine interface (HMI) to ensure that the onboard ITS functions would be easy for drivers to use. The issues in the system architecture that had to be addressed to achieve such functions were identified and resolved. Evaluations were made of various factors contributing to the legibility of the large-size monitor, which is one of the major features of this concept car, and to the feeling of operating ease of the control switches. The effect of each factor was made clear by the results. (A*)
