Abstract

This paper describes the intermediate study results currently conducted by Japanese standardisation body for ITS information services. These services require real-time information, forecasts, reliability and life-related safety information. The suitable bearers for these services are terrestrial digital audio broadcasting system and BSS (broadcasting satellite services) system for digital sound using 2.6GHz band. Those broadcasting media can be received very easily in mobile reception circumstances. Considering for encoding these ITS-related information, it is necessary to conform to national broadcasting standards already established or currently under study. The feasibilities have been examined when current VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System) service as well as its possible extensions are used to these broadcasting systems.
