Abstract

The developed ITS network system enables connections with external networks such as the Internet without any concerns for the different types of wireless equipment used, such as cellular phones for covering a wide range or Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) for narrow range but high-speed transmission. This paper primarily discusses the communication quality monitoring technology of DSRC, which is capable of transmitting large amount of data and thought to be a beneficial in-vehicle communication means for the ITS network system. This development was undertaken as part of the research project "Research and Development of ITS High-functionality Connection Technology" contracted to The Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan (TAO).
