Abstract

The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is a strategy used world-wide in order to deal with the worsening traffic problems in urban and rural areas, increasing traffic accidents, and degradation of the environment. Korea has adopted the ITS system since 1990, and has concentrated its efforts in modifying the ITS system to fit the needs of Korea. Thus, in 1997, the Master Plan for National ITS Development was established, and a great deal of effort has been provided for the actual implementation of the program. This paper reviews the standardization of technology in a few nations, where this has already been put to use, such as the United States, Europe, and Japan. It then presents the direction of standardization of technology in ITS services in Korea in accordance with the areas of ATMS, ATIS, and APTS. (A*)
