Abstract

The paper first provides a discussion of the circumstances in which developing a modelling system of this nature would be beneficial to the strategy development and appraisal process. This is followed by a brief description of the individual components of the overall modelling system. It is assumed that the readers are familiar with the individual components of multi-modal transportation modelling and that of the land use modelling process. The individual components of the modelling process are therefore only referred to, briefly, followed by a discussion of the linkages between the land use and the transportation models. The paper further includes a discussion of the data requirements for developing the models, with a particular emphasis on the data required to develop and validate the land use model, followed by the conclusions on the key issues in developing an integrated model of the form which is the subject of this paper.
