Abstract

As the functionality of vehicle navigation systems has been enriched in recent years, the demand for a higher quality and more up-to-date navigation map database has been increasing. However, the data editing system based on the current file system is designed for editing individual data items independently and requires additional time and effort to obtain consistency between the edited data, thus causing a delay and loss of data freshness. A map production system that enables data to be offered in a short time after data editing by constructing a relational database for storing the map data was developed. Use of this system enables us to edit a large variety of data while maintaining mutual relationships and data consistency, and the revised database provided by the system is expected to be usable not only for vehicle navigation systems but also for many other applications.
