This paper introduces a road marking recognition system using an in-vehicle camera. Improvements in car-electronics have been increasing the numberof in-vehicle cameras and computers. Therefore, new applications such as road marking recognition systems can be made available with these devices.Unlike recognition of document images, recognition of road markings requires tolerance to shade and shadows. A binarization algorithm based on dynamic thresholding was developed. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified by PC implementation, and on an evaluation board that contains an in-vehicle image processing LSI, VISCONTI (VIsion based Sensing, CONTrol and Intelligence) . This system and experimental results are described. For the covering abstract see E134653.
