By capitalizing on internet technology, experimental operations of the "Road Weather Information System" (RWIS) have been constructed and performed, by which information was shared between the Road Management Administration and the Weather Information Administration for the region of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, known for its severely cold temperatures and large accumulations of snowfall. Improvement of the service level of road management work can be expected by making and applying additional high value information which comes from the sharing of information by the RWIS. As this RWIS utilizes internet technology, a more flexible and cost effective system which uses WWW and e-mail information measures will be developed. Many further benefits can be expected from it.
