Abstract

Ten years of New York research on the skid resistance of asphalt pavements are summarized. Skid numbers measured by a two-wheel trailer are related to cumulative vehicle passes for the state's various geologic formations that are sources of coarse aggregate for asphalt concrete. Mixes with coarse aggregates containing at least 20% non-carbonate stone remain skid resistant for the life of the pavement.
