Abstract

The objective of this paper is to develop a system that provides various information related with tollgate operation in order to assist tollgate management personnel in making daily operational decisions based on traffic data through real time communication with FTMS (Freeway Traffic Management System) and TCS (Toll Collection System). The main topic of this research is to develop a software system that addresses the following fundamentals; identification of decision support information to be generated from real time traffic information data and presentation of decision support information using graphic user interface, monitoring of current traffic flow status of freeway, projection of traffic arrival pattern at tollgate, simulation of tollgate based on current operational settings and projected traffic arrival data, and experimentation of operational alternatives using tollgate simulation model.
