Abstract

The results of the UK Department for Transport's (DfT) project 'Evaluation of the Costs and Benefits of ITS Deployment - Phase 2' are presented. The project culminated in the migration from a CD ROM based Toolkit to a web-based resource, while strengthening the guidance on investment in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). This work was undertaken on DfT's behalf by Faber Maunsell. The Guidance is aimed at decision makers who identify strategic goals to help achieve local and national transport objectives, and transport planners who undertake the more technical aspects of a project, fulfilling the decision maker's strategic requirements. The toolkit is intended to help authorities assess the business case for investment in ITS and identify how best to use ITS to meet their own local challenges, including improvements to the environment, safety, efficiency, accessibility and integrating ITS investments. It also provides information on what others have done in deploying and operating ITS and what they have learnt from their experience. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
