Abstract

This research proposes the concept of Quality Of Driving (QOD), and develops a technical skill, which measures the stability of driving and evaluates the QOD. We have developed a real-time QOD evaluating system, which measures the stability of driving condition from the sequence of images taken by the camera. To evaluate the QOD, the following three parameters were selected: (1) the degree of meandering; (2) the stability of velocity; and (3) the sufficiency of the distance between the vehicle and the vehicle ahead. The concept of the QOD can be used as several applications, for example, the driving assistance system, the drive recorder which enables the verification of traffic accident, and the intelligent tachometer.
