Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop a small and inexpensive device for indication of the normal pressure between two impacting deformable bodies. The device should be thin enough to be suitable for use between the soft parts of a human body, or a body substitute, and the force transmitting surfaces i.e. the interior structures of a motor car, restraining devices, car bumpers etc. it should be reasonably insensitive to shearing and harmless to the contacting structures. It should be possible to stick the device to a human substitute or to the force transmitting structures of a vehicle. The device should be designed to indicate peak force in a number of steps within a certain interval and over a small area. (a)
