The implementation of parking payment by mobile phone in Tarragona, Spain, is described. Parkeon signed an agreement with mobile phone network provider Amena leading to a pilot scheme in Tarragona. The success of the pilot led to the roll-out of mobile phone payment facilities in the city's 112 Parkeon pay and display machines. Users press a blue button on the front of the machine to select the mobile phone payment option, push the button again to select the parking period required and press a second button which then displays a code to be keyed into the mobile. A message is sent to the mobile confirming the cost and time purchased. A standard ticket is issued for display in the vehicle. Similar systems have been used in Edinburgh and Dublin.
