Abstract

An overview is given of different factors which cause fractures of the neck and the basicranium at indirect trauma. Rotational forces are but the hyperextension of the neck at rear- end collisions or the hyperflexion of the neck at frontal collisions are very dangerous. Thereby comes the dangerous side impact and the oblique impact of some restraint systems.
