Abstract

A model has been developed for the quantification of congestion costs imposed, on a lane of a two-lane road, by a traffic of slow vehicles on a traffic of fast ones, in conditions in which overtaking is not possible. The model covers traffic of all probability distributions. the sensitivity of these costs to the length of the road, the speed of fast and slow traffic, and their densities and distributions, can be tested.
