Abstract

A digital computer model of the driver-car interaction, omitting steering, was formulated for one car for the tasks of overtaking, following, and passing other cars. This formulation was implemented by a Fortran IV program in a general manner enabling a wide range of values to be entered as independent variables. Simulation indicated that the most important interaction occurred between the variables which determined the rate and manner of implementing accelerations and decelerations and the size of time increments between successive control responses.
