Abstract

On a number of Dutch motorways overhead traffic signals are installed with matrix signalization. By means of signal indicators advisory speeds are given. The distance between the matrix lighting points and the light intensity are important, just as the background which determines also the adaptation of the eye. This study has the aim to find the exact time for dimming by which the background brightness is the determining factor.
