Abstract

In two experiments the efficiency of recognition versus recall was compared. Differently coloured fields of line drawings of toys were used as the to-be-remembered items. It is concluded that once the same number of alternatives are provided in the recall test as in the recognition test, performances are equal. Actually seeing the alternatives is not more effective than merely thinking of alternatives.
