Abstract

The direction of future traffic safety research in the United States is briefly examined; needs for trained research staff and stable funding to retain them; good communication with staff installing and maintaining road equipment so as to ensure high level of safety; better communication between organizations involved in different aspects of roads and driving; human factors analysis of the driving task by computerized means; integration of highway safety programmes with other aspects in society (such as showing organ donorship on driving licences).
