Road infrastructures are an important element for the mitigation of disasters both before (prevention phase: evacuation of populations) and after (access of rescue teams, delivery of medical and other assistance, and restart of local economy). Disaster mitigation requires, however, special organizational measures taken by road authorities to be prepared to face such crisis situations. The purpose of this session is to gain from the experience of a series of recent disasters by the presentation and the analysis of how road authorities have acted and reacted and from the assessment of the impacts of their actions.
