Abstract

Road surface condition sensors are among the most promising road weather sensor technologies, as they can quickly provide information on winter road surface conditions, which are weather-dependent and widely changeable, to road administrators, road users and other relevant parties. This paper describes the development and the accuracy of a road surface condition monitoring system that operates on the principle of automobile tire sounds. The system is aimed at improving the monitoring accuracy of road surface condition sensors and the efficiency of winter road management. For the covering abstract see ITRD E143097.
